Three firms, three different rooms.
Some recent work with law firms and investment firms in London and Madrid, in their own words. Most of my one-to-one work is confidential, so it is not here.
Dawson Cornwell LLP · Family law, London
The situation. A family law team whose work is made of difficult conversations: clients going through the worst moment of their lives, bad news, emotional meetings, and moments where authority and empathy have to sit together.
What we did. An in-house session on what happens to the voice under pressure. A simple breathing tool to steady the voice before speaking. Pace and pause, so as not to sound rushed or defensive. Projection without forcing. And short, practical phrases for their own situations: bad news, emotional moments, difficult calls.
What they said.
“It's incredible how dealing with clients or the courtroom can be like the art of opera. Julio's insights into listening, both to the music and the silences, were invaluable. We left not only with practical tools but with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration for our work.”
Isidro Niñerola Torres, Senior Associate, Dawson Cornwell LLP
Amro Partners · Real estate investment, Madrid and London
The situation. The Iberia team of an institutional real estate investor: investment, development and operations. People who spend their day with investors, sellers, brokers, partners and the London office, often in two languages.
What we did. A session in Spanish at their Madrid offices for the three teams together, built on examples from their own day to day: deals, conversations with investors and partners, calls with London.
What they said.
“It was extremely valuable for all the teams involved (investment, development, and operations) and highly recommended for any company that interacts regularly with clients, investors, suppliers, commercial partners, and other stakeholders, and wants to strengthen the quality, effectiveness, and security of those interactions.”
Pablo García-Morales Osorio, Managing Director and Co-Head of Iberia, Amro Partners
Patrivalor SGIIC · Asset management, Madrid
The situation. A fund management team in Madrid. Well prepared people, with clear numbers, who present to investors and clients and need to sound as sure as their analysis is.
What we did. An in-house session on the voice under pressure: breath, pace, pauses and projection. Each person heard themselves back, and the question that came up again and again was the same one: do I really sound like that?
What they said.
“We all make small mistakes without realising it: forcing the voice, running out of air, weak projection, filler words, a flat and monotonous tone, all of which make an audience disconnect. From the very first session, Julio was able to identify areas for improvement and design fully personalised training.”
Ricardo Santos, CFA, Fund Manager, Patrivalor SGIIC (translated from Spanish)
One to one
Most of my one-to-one clients are senior people preparing a specific moment or changing how they come across. Their names stay private. Two of them were happy to share what they said:
“He hears what is getting in the way before you do. The adjustments are small. The difference is immediate.”
Engin O., Senior Manager, Tesco
“In the first session I understood exactly what was limiting my voice, precisely rather than vaguely, and how to change it. Years of working under pressure had never made that clear.”
Myra V., Clinical Psychologist
It might be a board meeting, a hearing, an investor pitch, a promotion panel or a team that is not getting its message across. Just send me an email, there is no form. I reply within two working days and, if it makes sense, we have a 20-minute call. Or start with a free voice read: send me two minutes of you in a real meeting and I will tell you what I hear.
