Senior interviews

At this level they are not checking your CV. They are deciding whether they can see you in the job.

Preparation for the final rounds of a senior role: the panel, the presentation, the conversation with the board or the CEO, and internal promotions. We rehearse it with real questions until your answers sound like someone who already does the job.

What usually goes wrong

The answers are right and they come out too long. People explain instead of deciding, justify every step of their career, and when the difficult question comes the voice speeds up and goes up. The panel hears someone who wants the job, when they were looking for someone who can do it.

In a second language all of this shows more. Many people interview in English when they think in Spanish, or the other way round.

What we work on

Your story in two minutes. Who you are and why this role, without reading out your CV.

The questions you do not want. Why you left, the gap, the project that went wrong, why you and not the internal candidate. I ask them until they stop throwing you.

The presentation round, if there is one: your first ninety days, the strategy or the case they have sent you.

Video interviews. Online the voice carries even more of the weight, and pauses sound different. We practise on the same kind of call.

What you leave with

Your two-minute story, rehearsed out loud.

Your answers to the questions you are dreading, practised with me pushing back.

A routine for the hour before the interview.

A short written note after each session.

Format

Usually two to four sessions before the interview, the last one a day or two before.

If it is a few days away, the intensive: two sessions of two hours in the three days before, or one session of three hours.

Online, or in person in London or Madrid. In English or Spanish.

Who it is for

People going for director, head of, partner and C-level roles, in a new company or in their own. Also interviews for board and non-executive positions.

Questions

The interview is in three days. Is it too late?

No. That is what the intensive is for: two sessions of two hours in the days before, or one of three hours, only on what you are going to say.

Do you help with the CV or the application?

No. I work on the interview itself: how you sound when you answer and when they push back.

The interview is in English and I think in Spanish. Can we work on that?

Yes. Sessions can be in English, in Spanish or in both. If the interview is in your second language, we practise in that language.

Will anyone know I am preparing?

No. Nobody hears about it from me.

How much does it cost?

There is no public price list. Write to me with the date and what is coming up, and I send you a short written proposal within two working days.

It might be a board meeting, a hearing, an investor pitch, a promotion panel or a team that is not getting its message across. Just send me an email, there is no form. I reply within two working days and, if it makes sense, we have a 20-minute call. Or start with a free voice read: send me two minutes of you in a real meeting and I will tell you what I hear.
